An Institute for Mankind :: Tamluk Ramakrishna Mission

The objectives or goals are set by SWAMI VIVEKANANDA. He used to chant Atmano mokshartham jagaddhitaya cha (in Sanskrit), means for one’s own liberation and for good of the world. Ramkrishna Mission is formed for making man. You can say we have man making machines. Once swamiji used to tell that man making is my mission. We are also here to direct them towards the path what Ramkrishna had shown us.

This Mission was established in the year of 1914, at Sankarara, a place between Dharmashala and Electricity Office.Three Missions are in Purba Medinipur district, and another two are in Paschim Medinipur. One is at Tamluk, another two are in Chandipur and Contai respectively. Our head quarter is at Belur Math, in Howrah, West Bengal. Swami Bahana nandaji is the president. And district secretary is the Swami Prabha Nandaji. Golpark institute of culture is held responsible for publishing the BANI of Ramkrishna and Swami Vivekananda.

Swami Gangadharanandaji Maharaj told us: "Every year we distribute all books according to syllabus of different classes, to at least 50-60 poor students who belong to this mission and outside student also. Books will cost around Rs.500-600/- for each student, we collect the books after they finished, and serve the same to others in next year. Last year we had donated books and note books to 270 children. This year we couldn’t manage to provide this facility, but trying to implement it soon".

"As per our village work initiative we distribute 1000 blankets with sari, dhuti clothes to the distress and poor at time of winter every year. Every day we provide milk to 100 children aged between 5-6 years at morning 6’o clock. This we have been doing for last several years. All we purchase from Belur at a chief rate. One experienced homeopathy doctor has been given duty for routine health check up and distributes medicine for free. The time is from 10 am – 11-30 am. We also have a homeopath dispensary at Matangini Pathagar, krishnaganj. Nonakuri bazaar. We provide this medical facility to 18000 – 20000 people every year".

"We drive a primary school. At present number of students are 450, next year we will make it 600 as our target. 11 teachers have been appointed to direct this. Beside this we also have a technical school for making furniture".

"Here student passed out from 8th standard to 10th standard, are getting practical training of about three months and given a stipend daily basis. After completion they have been given a tool kit worth Rs.3000/-. After completion they can join the math or can go out side to start their own business. We are also giving free lodging facility to some students. If we are financially strong then we can provide free hostel for all".

"We are also planning to set up one computer training and spoken English center within 6 months. For setting up these training centers we need to collect funds. Now we are facing some problem in collecting these funds, we are collecting funds from local admirer, and also from foreign. Already one company came forward to set up the construction for training center. Earlier main building is constructed by Peerless Company. Now we are appealing to peoples of Purba Medinipur for funding. We are also planning to provide internet facility, near future. For that we will take minimum charge. This is not to get profit or to make business. Our main objective is to help common people. We are devoting ourselves for helping others. For last we have been noticing that students are not showing interest to take training what we are providing now, rather they are interested in learning computers which is a good sign, and so we can’t hesitate for what situation demands. But practical hand work like carpentry also has to learn simultaneously".

We have more than 20,000 devotees in this Tamluk region". "I joined this mission on 2001, before that I continued my service from 1977 to 1991 here in Tamluk. Before 2001, I was in Seba Pratistan at Sishumangal Hospital and in Joga udyan Math at Kakurgachi for 11 months. I spend more time in Tamluk, of my 30 years of service. We have more than 20,000 devotees in this Tamluk region."

"We start our day at 4.30 am, by praying to lord, then yoga, and devotional songs and chanting. We take our break fast at 7 am. As per our planned routine we have to obey all rules and regulations. Everybody is given their respective duty to carry out. Like some body for maintaining temple’s curriculum, some body for keeping premises clean, some body is for preparing organization etc then we take our mid day meal after temples doors closed at 12’0 clock. Temple doors reopen at 4 pm. Sandhya Arti is held at 6.30 pm. And at 9 pm temple door closes. We take dinner after 9 pm. After having dinner we start planning for next day".

"We deal with the people from every class in the society. Talking to them we can feel what they want and what they can do. Sometimes they expresses their frustration that they want to do something but they were helpless because of some constrains which creates obstacle on their way".

"Recently we raised a fund of rupees 6 - 7 lakh for flood relief work in Sabang and Pingla locality. We served them with khichuri (mix of dal & rice) and clean water and medicine. More than 1 lakh people get this relief. We have volunteers to help the people at the time of disaster".

"Lastly we can say that we can’t do anything with out help of common people. We can only organize them in a proper way. We have no personal intention for making profit. It is the organization for the common people and to help the masses".
